Light Shop, the new Disney+ series, has garnered significant attention globally. Adapted from the popular webtoon of the same name by Kang Full, the series has piqued curiosity, especially since the original author was directly involved in the production. The webtoon had previously been adapted into a film in China, raising expectations for this new version.
After the first six episodes, besides the leads Park Bo-young and Joo Ji-hoon, the spotlight has shifted to actress Seolhyun, who plays the tragic character Lee Ji-young. Ji-young is the girlfriend of Kim Hyun-min, whose family opposes their relationship. When Hyun-min comes to visit Ji-young, he is involved in a severe bus accident and falls into a coma.
Believing he has died, Hyun-min’s mother sends Ji-young a cruel message, blaming her for his death. Overwhelmed by guilt and pressure, Ji-young decides to end her life to reunite with Hyun-min, unaware that he is only in a deep coma. In the world between life and death, Ji-young struggles to heal Hyun-min’s wounds so he can receive his light from the Light Shop and return to life.
Despite her limited screen time due to the series’ multiple storylines, Seolhyun has captivated audiences in the first six episodes with her exceptional acting and the emotional depth of her character. From her struggles with forbidden love to her despair and haunting transformation, Seolhyun delivers an outstanding performance. Her acting skill, often criticized in the past, have surprised viewers with its maturity and intensity.
Audience Reactions
- “Seolhyun’s acting is incredible; some scenes were so scary I couldn’t watch alone at night.”
- “She nailed it. Now I’m scared of the dark because of her!”
- “Her emotional scenes are top-notch; it’s like she’s playing multiple roles in one character.”
- “I used to think Seolhyun wasn’t a great actress, but I was so wrong.”
Seolhyun’s appearance in Light Shop has also been a hot topic. As an idol-turned-actress, she’s known for her radiant and beautiful image, regardless of her roles. However, this time, she appears makeup-free, wearing a drenched nightgown with a pale and lifeless expression throughout the series. Ji-young is arguably the most “unpolished” character in Seolhyun’s career.
First Look at Seolhyun’s “Unkempt” Appearance on Screen
Light Shop revolves around a lamp store run by Jung Won-young. Beneath its ordinary exterior lies a space where life and death intersect, allowing the living, the dead, and even those near death to gather. Each lamp represents a will to live, containing a person’s soul. As long as a person’s lamp remains lit, they have a chance to return to life.
