On January 10, actor Song Joong-ki appeared on SBS PowerFM’s “Park Ha-sun Cine Town,” where he shared personal insights into his life as a father, his relationship with his wife Katie Louise Saunders, and their growing family.
During the broadcast, Song Joong-ki spoke about the birth of their second child in 2024, sharing, “My wife gave birth in Italy recently, and I was there briefly when she gave birth. Now, I’m in Korea due to filming, and we’re just video calling each other.” He mentioned that he was still learning about parenting, saying, “I’m learning about parenting while studying. I sometimes ask Hee-joon hyung for advice,” to which his fellow guest, Lee Hee-joon, added, “He’s been reading parenting books diligently.”
Song Joong-ki also discussed his wife Katie’s growing culinary skills, mentioning, “She’s learning Korean dishes, and she has learned a lot, so we’re eating well. She’s really good at cooking.” He proudly shared that his mother-in-law is from Colombia, and during the filming of “Bogotá: Land of Last Chance,” which was set in Colombia, he had enjoyed the local cuisine, particularly the spicy blood sausage soup, which was perfect for a hangover.
The actor also shared a sweet detail about his relationship with Katie, revealing that he saved her name in his phone as “YOBO” in English, which translates to “여보” in Korean, a term of endearment meaning “honey” or “darling.” He laughed, saying, “When my wife heard the Korean pronunciation of ‘여보,’ she thought it was so beautiful. We first decided on this nickname between ourselves.” Lee Hee-joon chimed in, sharing that his own nickname for Katie is “Yeobongbong,” and he has saved it as “My love” in his phone.
Song Joong-ki and Katie Louise Saunders first met through a mutual friend in 2021, and their relationship quickly blossomed. They confirmed their romance in December 2022, followed by an announcement of their marriage and pregnancy. The couple welcomed their first child, a son, in June 2023, and in November 2024, they had their second child, a daughter.
As Song Joong-ki continues his acting career, including his role in “Bogota: City of The Lost,” which tells the story of a man caught in the web of Colombia’s Korean community post-IMF crisis, he remains focused on his family and learning the ropes of fatherhood.
