The Divorce Insurance Episode 1 Recap
The episode starts with an amusing advertisement for wedding-related things that one can find at a wedding fair. As young couples check out everything that is being offered, Ki-jun appears in front of them to offer divorce insurance, leaving the attendees in shock. Although everyone questions their intentions, Ki-jun’s passionate presentation leaves everyone in awe. Unfortunately, the attendees end up throwing things at them in the end, and they make a run for it! As they hide from everyone else, Jeon-man and Ki-jun get into a fight but are interrupted by an eager customer, leaving all of them excited.
3 months ago, we see Ki-jun looking heartbroken and tired and promising his boss (in his head) that he will make a new venture that will be successful. At work, Dae-bok gets the devastating news that his wife has filed for divorce after he had taken out another insurance policy that they cannot afford. Right then, Ki-jun proposes the divorce insurance idea to him, which he accepts because he catches him at a vulnerable moment. Elsewhere, Han-deul is still feeling the aftereffects of her breakup at the grocery store. Back at home, Ki-jun, too, feels a bit morose about his breakup.

The next day, he presents his proposal at work, which Jeon-man repeatedly shoots down. However, in the end, he asks Dae-bok to assemble a task force, which only happens after Ki-jun emotionally blackmails him. Later, he gets into a conversation with Jeon-man about the idea, and although the latter is skeptical, Ki-jun is full of confidence. Jeon-man breaks down eventually as well. As they start to get acquainted with one another, he asks Ki-jun about the reasons for his three divorces. Ki-jun tells him the same reason for all three and eventually asks Jeon-man’s reasons.
Elsewhere, Han-deul decides to become the complete opposite of her goody two-shoes personality and live her life differently instead of tiptoeing around others. Her friend Ah-young spreads this rumour around in the office, ensuring that she is never ignored from here on out. That night, Ki-jun and Han-deul have a chance meeting, and he ends up accidentally falling on her and then a sheet magically engulfs them under it as well. Well, this act lands them in the police station, where they learn about each other’s occupation.

Just then, Ki-jun remembers finding Han-deul crying in the supermarket and decides to put the matter to an end, citing later that the odds of them meeting again are slim to none. The next day, of course, the divorce insurance task force notice goes up at the office, and Ah-young immediately jumps at the offer. Meanwhile, Ki-jun is left shocked to look at the applicants’ list, which seems to be never-ending, leaving Dae-bok and Jeon-man shocked. As the interviews start, Han-deul applies for the role as well and is selected, along with Ah-young.
The next day, they meet Senior Managing Director Na-rae in the elevator and thus complete their little team, and she turns out to be Ki-jun’s first wife!
The Divorce Insurance Episode 1 Review

Although I am not much of a fan of loud dramas, The Divorce Insurance is a chaotic charmer. Lee Da-hee’s late entry makes for the perfect cliffhanger and, of course, her relationship with Ki-jun as well. I really enjoyed the first episode, it’s a good balance between humour and drama, although I would’ve liked for things to be a little bit quieter. Either way, this one’s quirky attitude might just be its winning bet. Lee Dong-wook is great as usual, and his chemistry with Lee Joo-bin is something to look out for. Lee Kwang-soo’s An Jeon-man is quite funny as well, and his serious attitude might just be the charmer that grounds this wild group.
