The Potato Lab Episode 6 Recap

Episode 6 of The Potato Lab opens with Ki-se making an unannounced—and very unwelcome—appearance at Mi-kyung’s doorstep. Since hashing things out in front of the entire guesthouse would be social suicide, she rides off with him to a more secluded spot. He almost spills that he’s really there to check on Hee-jin but quickly pivots to bringing up Baek-ho instead. When Mi-kyung casually refers to Baek-ho by name, it sets off alarm bells in Ki-se’s head. Why is she on such familiar terms with him? Not that it’s any of his business. Mi-kyung, ever the queen of sass, kindly informs him that Ong-ju recently purchased a cleaver and suggests he scram before things get ugly.

So why was Mi-kyung even up so late? Well, turns out she and Baek-ho finally called a truce. He accepted her apology, and in a moment that shouldn’t have made her heart flutter but totally did, he told her to sleep well. Cue Mi-kyung grinning like a lovesick fool.

The next morning at work, Baek-ho presents the 2024 Potato Purchasing Plan for Wonhan Retail’s Potato Lab. His big move? Phasing out Jangsaeng potatoes and replacing them with imported Marshalls from the U.S. Seems simple enough, right? Not quite. The lab team is deeply concerned about how this switch will affect the beloved Potatochip brand’s taste. To prove them wrong, Baek-ho arranges a blind taste test, confident that no one will notice the difference. The twist? He sneakily put Marshall potatoes in both sample bags! Classic Baek-ho move.

Post-test, the lab team, including Bu Jae-joong, is in full “we’re doomed” mode. But Mi-kyung, ever the problem solver, proposes a game-changing alternative: Maroo potatoes. This new variety they’ve been working on is just as fast-growing as the Marshalls but far more adaptable, making them a smarter long-term choice. The catch? The harvest isn’t for another month, by which time Mi-kyung will be long gone. But instead of sulking, she surprises Baek-ho by taking it in stride, showing just how much she’s matured. As they drive to check on the Maroo fields, she admits she hopes she can stick around a little longer at work. A moment of growth… and maybe something more?

Meanwhile, Ong-ju has an epiphany—she’s jealous of the idea that Hwan-kyung might be interested in someone else. When she finally confronts him, he doesn’t hold back, calling her out for rejecting him over the years. But this time, something’s different. Ong-ju, in a move that surprises even herself, asks him to kiss her. One thing leads to another, and let’s just say things heat up very quickly.

The next morning, Baek-ho and Mi-kyung arrive at work… but not before being caught sleeping in the car together, hands touching. The entire team gathers around, gleefully witnessing this very telling scene. The cherry on top? A hushed conversation about marriage. Of course, when the pair wake up and see their audience, they play it cool, but the gossip mill is already in overdrive.

Back at home, Ong-ju and Hwan-kyung act all kinds of suspicious. Mi-kyung, ever clueless, assumes it’s a gambling-related secret. They don’t correct her, and their cover remains intact—for now. Over at the office, Ki-se pops in to offer Baek-ho an alternate place to stay, playing it off as a friendly gesture. But let’s be real: this is pure jealousy talking. Ki-se wants Baek-ho as far from Mi-kyung as possible, and he’s not even subtle about it.

Speaking of jealousy, Mi-kyung gets a taste of it herself when Baek-ho starts ignoring her calls, burying himself in work. Hee-jin, never one to let an opportunity for mischief slip by, relentlessly teases Baek-ho until he finally cracks. She even waves around her old shoes, threatening to jump on the bed if he doesn’t spill. Baek-ho, finally defeated, admits he likes someone from work. Hee-jin, unimpressed by his lack of courage, boos him on the spot. Meanwhile, Mi-kyung wears her heart on her sleeve, making it clear how much she likes Baek-ho. But his sudden cold behaviour brings back bad memories, especially when he avoids her at work.

Flashback to six years ago—Mi-kyung was isolated, ignored, and left to eat lunch alone, thanks to some workplace drama. Even Ki-se didn’t acknowledge her. Seeing Baek-ho act distant now stirs up all those old wounds, making her anxiety spike. Ki-se takes this moment to drag Mi-kyung into his office, casually informing her that her resignation form has made it to head office. However, he hasn’t signed it—yet. Because why not dangle her fate like a carrot on a stick?

Later that night, Mi-kyung has had enough. She corners Baek-ho and calls him out on his infuriating hot-and-cold behaviour. She demands an explanation—what exactly is she to him? And in a rare moment of honesty, Baek-ho lays it all out: she’s a “line he wants to cross.” He closes the door, his eyes locked on hers, tension thick in the air. And just like that, the episode ends on a cliffhanger.

Meanwhile, in the epilogue, Ong-ju and Hwan-kyung have entered full rom-com mode, watching movies together and pretending they’re not completely smitten with each other. But let’s be real—there’s a whole lot of lust brewing beneath those popcorn-sharing moments. Stay tuned for more potato-fueled drama!

The Potato Lab Episode 6 Review

The show continues to balance corporate chaos with rom-com antics, and this episode is no exception. Baek-ho and Mi-kyung’s relationship takes centre stage, moving from playful banter to deeper emotional territory. Their undeniable chemistry is beautifully contrasted with Baek-ho’s reluctance to open up, making his final confession all the more satisfying.

Meanwhile, Ong-ju and Hwan-kyung steal the show with their long-overdue romantic breakthrough, adding a fun and passionate subplot that keeps things fresh. The episode’s workplace dynamics—complete with shady business decisions, a sneaky taste test, and office gossip—add another layer of intrigue, keeping the stakes high without overshadowing the personal drama.

What truly makes this episode shine is its ability to juggle multiple emotional beats without missing a step. From Mi-kyung’s resurfacing trauma to Ki-se’s meddling and Hee-jin’s hilarious interventions, every moment feels purposeful and engaging. The show’s signature wit is on full display, with sharp dialogue and perfectly timed comedic moments that lighten the tension. The final scene, charged with unresolved emotions and Baek-ho’s long-awaited admission, is the perfect setup for what’s to come.

The Potato Lab is streaming on Netflix.
