The Potato Lab Episode 8 Recap

The episode kicks off with Mi-kyung proudly parading her giant teddy bear from Baek-ho, only to be caught by Hwan-kyung and Ong-ju, who hilariously assume she’s been spying on Baek-ho as he changes.
The misunderstanding escalates when Mi-kyung calls Baek-ho to explain, and he cheekily teases her with a promise that she’ll “see it soon enough,” leaving her flustered and the viewers in stitches. Meanwhile, Hee-jin’s beach outing takes a melancholic turn when she witnesses a proposal, triggering memories of her own rushed marriage to Ki-se. It’s clear Ki-se’s heart isn’t fully in it, especially now that he’s spiraling over Mi-kyung and Baek-ho’s relationship.

The next day, Mi-kyung cancels plans with Ong-ju to spend time with Baek-ho, sparking a hilarious pouting session from Ong-ju. Hwan-kyung tries to smooth things over with some impromptu kissing, but their moment is interrupted by Ki-se speeding past in his car, setting off a chain reaction of chaos. Ong-ju, now on a mission, races back to the guesthouse to confront Ki-se, unleashing a fiery tirade about his parasitic tendencies and threatening him with bodily harm.

Ki-se, however, fires back with accusations about Ong-ju’s role in his breakup with Mi-kyung, adding fuel to the already blazing fire. The tension is palpable as Baek-ho and Mi-kyung step in, with Hwan-kyung explaining the messy dynamics between everyone. Despite the drama, Mi-kyung refuses to open up about her past, retreating to her room and leaving everyone in suspense.

The chaos doesn’t stop there. A late-night emergency announcement about a runaway cow named Myung-su sends the entire village into a frenzy. Baek-ho, ever the overprepared city boy, grabs a massive backpack of supplies, ready for what he assumes is a life-or-death situation. The search for Myung-su turns into a quirky adventure, with Baek-ho and Mi-kyung eventually finding the calf thanks to his ridiculously bright flashlight.

The heartfelt reunion between the cow and her owner, an elderly woman with dementia, adds a touch of sweetness to the otherwise absurd situation. Baek-ho even gifts the woman a location tracker for Myung-su, proving he’s not just a pretty face with a flashlight.
Back at the guesthouse, Mi-kyung walks in on Hwan-kyung and Ong-ju in a compromising position, leading to an awkward and hilarious confrontation. Mi-kyung, horrified at the idea of her best friend and brother being together, storms out, declaring she can’t live there anymore. She heads to the potato lab, where Baek-ho finds her and listens to her vent about the situation.

Mi-kyung dismisses their relationship as a product of boredom and loneliness, refusing to believe it’s genuine. Baek-ho, ever the smooth operator, decides to “make his move” by taking her to a hotel—only to reveal he’s booked the room solely for her, not himself. His thoughtful gesture, coupled with his refusal to take advantage of her vulnerable state, leaves Mi-kyung both touched and flustered.

Meanwhile, at the potato lab, a new face stirs up trouble. Park Seung-hoon, Ki-se’s cronie, arrives and immediately starts bossing everyone around, much to the annoyance of the team. His presence is clearly meant to meddle and spy on Baek-ho, adding another layer of tension to the workplace. Over at Wonhan HQ, Hee-jin tries to reconnect with Ki-se on their anniversary, but his frosty demeanor makes it clear their relationship is on shaky ground. The awkwardness reaches its peak when Baek-ho and Mi-kyung show up at the office, leading to a cringe-worthy encounter where Mi-kyung finally pieces together Hee-jin’s connection to Ki-se.

The Potato Lab Episode 8 Review
This is such a good episode! Baek-ho’s cheeky tease about Mi-kyung “seeing it soon enough” had me cackling, and the runaway cow subplot was the cherry on top of this chaotic sundae. Who knew a missing calf could bring so much drama? The show’s ability to balance absurd humor with heartfelt moments, like the reunion between the cow and her elderly owner, is what makes it so special. It’s quirky, it’s fun, and it never takes itself too seriously.
That said, the romantic tension between Mi-kyung and Baek-ho continues to be the highlight of the series for me. Their chemistry is electric, and Baek-ho’s thoughtful gesture of booking a hotel room just for Mi-kyung (without any ulterior motives) was both swoon-worthy and hilariously on-brand for his character. However, I couldn’t help but feel a little frustrated with Mi-kyung’s reaction to Hwan-kyung and Ong-ju’s relationship. Her refusal to accept their romance felt a bit over-the-top, even for her dramatic personality. Still, the episode’s mix of humor, heart, and cow-related shenanigans made it impossible not to enjoy.
The Potato Lab is streaming on Netflix.
