Netflix’s new original series “Trunk” is already generating heated reactions even before its official release. The show’s intriguing characters, captivating story, and especially its attention-grabbing bed scenes have sparked explosive interest.
On the 26th, the Majestic Ballroom at Raum Art Center in Gangnam, Seoul, hosted a production presentation for the series, where the cast shared their excitement and confidence in the project. During the event, discussions about the bed scenes became a hot topic.
Seo Hyun-jin shared, “If something wasn’t necessary for the character, I didn’t think it would be required. That part wasn’t a big issue.” Gong Yoo added humorously, “More than the bed or love scenes, there’s a shower scene of me alone,” drawing laughter from the audience. He revealed, “I wasn’t in shape at the time, so I frantically ate only greens for two weeks to prepare,” sharing a behind-the-scenes anecdote. Seo Hyun-jin joked, “That’s why he wanted to shoot it again,” bringing even more laughter.
Director Kim Gyu-tae emphasized that the bed scenes were essential to the narrative and not included merely for shock value. “It was necessary to explain the characters and situations within the context of the love story,” he said, highlighting that the scenes deepened the viewers’ understanding of the characters and the storyline.
The series is set to premiere on November 29. Starring Seo Hyun-jin and Gong Yoo, “Trunk” is a mystery-melodrama based on Kim Ryeo-ryeong’s novel of the same name. The story revolves around a mysterious marriage service and the peculiar relationship between two individuals connected through a trunk found floating on a lake.
Seo Hyun-jin plays Noh In-ji, an employee at a temporary marriage matchmaking company who ends up in a contractual marriage with Han Jung-won (played by Gong Yoo). Gong Yoo portrays Han Jung-won, a man who meets Noh In-ji after his ex-wife, Lee Seo-yeon (played by Jung Yoon-ha), applies for a temporary spouse service.
With its fresh concept of temporary marriages, “Trunk” delves into human psychology and emotional connections beyond a simple mystery. Director Kim Gyu-tae shared, “It was initially bewildering but intriguingly fresh. The psychological mystery and emotional depth between the characters add layers to the story.”
The teaser and pre-release footage have already drawn significant attention with their intense visuals and suspenseful narrative. Expectations are high for the chemistry between Seo Hyun-jin and Gong Yoo, with predictions that the series will gain global popularity among Netflix audiences.
