NewJeans, a highly discussed K-Pop group under HYBE’s sublabel ADOR, has captivated fans with their talent and charisma. However, concerns have been raised about the members’ ages; the oldest were born in 2004, while maknae Hyein was born in 2008, making her just 14 at debut. Despite this, netizens acknowledge the group’s talent, attributing any criticism to the company rather than the members.
While many netizens have raised concerns about NewJeans’ ages, fellow HYBE idols TXT’s Soobin and Beomgyu were particularly shocked. In a live broadcast, the duo, born in 2000 and 2001, supported their labelmates by watching NewJeans’ music video.
After confirming that Hyein, born in 2008, was just 14 years old at debut, Soobin’s reaction resembled the shocked Pikachu meme, while Beomgyu was equally surprised. Soobin noted that Hyein is five years younger than TXT’s youngest members and praised NewJeans’ impressive work ethic, saying, “Being able to do this at such a young age is amazing.” He even joked about feeling overwhelmed during the filming of their own music video for “Crown.”
This isn’t the first instance of a HYBE artist being surprised by a colleague’s age. SEVENTEEN’s Seungkwan had a particularly amusing reaction upon learning that LE SSERAFIM’s youngest member, Eunchae, was so young.
Although TXT debuted at a young age in 2019, it seems like new idols are getting younger all the time. Despite the challenges young idols face, they can rely on supportive seniors like Soobin and Beomgyu for guidance and advice.
