Family by Choice episode 16 brings an end to the drama that healed us while bringing heartwarming feelings that had us hooked. This remake of the popular Chinese drama was perfect, bringing the essence of the original while satisfying fans with its twists in the story. The finale episode was soothing to the viewers as it brought a satisfying, yet hilarious ending to the show.
Family by Choice (조립식 가족) tells the story of a family formed by bonds of love rather than those of blood. Two fathers come together to care for their three children who share the bond of love as they grow up together. While life isn’t always smooth for the trio, and feelings of love make their way within them, the family is always ready to face everything together. Starring Hwang In-youp, Jung Chae-yeon, Bae Hyeon-seong, Seo Ji-hye, Choi Won-young, Choi Moo-sung, the drama is available to stream on Viki.
Episode 16 starts with the heartfelt moment shared between the SanWon couple following which San-ha goes to Jeong-jae and finally gets his approval for their relationship. Meanwhile, Hae-jun and Ju-won wonder how they can get their parents together. Right then, Dal walks in with her blind date and Ju-won tries to use the jealousy tactic on Hae-jun.
Sometime later, San-ha walks into the cafe and sees the two. He approaches them and after a quick talk asks Dal’s blind date for a basketball match against himself and Hae-jun. Their friends soon rush to the court to watch Hae-jun play again and San-ha makes Hae-jun realise his feelings for Dal. After the duo wins the match, Hae-jun steps up and asks Dal’s blind date to let him take Dal away.
He tells Dal that he cannot see her as Ju-won and that his worries for her over these years were something else. While he may not have fallen for her as deeply as her, he hopes the day will soon come while he is beside her. With this, he asks her to date him and Dal agrees. Meanwhile, Dae-uk is testing Jaeong-jae’s feelings as he keeps teasing him with Hae-jun’s mother.
While SanWon and HaeDal enjoy their dating era, Dae-uk calls San-ha’s mother to tell her about San-ha’s relationship. She tells him that she is going to focus on So-hui and will be leaving for the UK soon. She tells him she will meet San-ha before she leaves and he asks her if she needs any help while wishing for her to live a peaceful life ahead. While this ex-couple comes to peace, Hae-jun and Ju-won are having a tough time with their parents.
While they spend an evening with their beloved people where Hae-jun understands Dal more and San-ha sees the struggle Ju-won faced during those ten years. The next day, they are back to worrying about their parents and Ju-won steps in to talk to Hae-jun’s mother about this. She asks her to be her mother while promising to be a good daughter to her.
Following this, Seo-hyun meets Jeong-jae and finally confesses her feelings and wishes to marry him. Jeong-jae is stunned by this and right when Se-hyun gets up to leave, he stops her and confesses his feelings; accepting her confession. The next few days pass by in the family celebrating this occasion while preparing for the wedding while San-ha’s father joins a singing club.
Soon, San-ha leaves to meet his mother and sister before they leave the country while Ju-won is stuck having to witness the lovey-dovey HaeDal couple. But she begins to worry when San-ha doesn’t respond to her, only to stumble upon him in his house where she goes to pick the wedding rings. San-ha’s surprise for her is spoiled, but that doesn’t stop the couple from sharing an intimate moment together.
The next day, Hae-jun is worried when he is unable to reach Ju-won and finds out that she didn’t return home the previous night. He rushes to his house to look for her only to see San-ha hurry out of his room and apologise to him. Understanding the meaning behind this, he screams at him while giving him a mean look during the wedding.
The wedding between Jeong-jae and Seo-hyun is beautiful and heartwarming as their loved ones gather to celebrate the newly formed family. With happy smiles and celebrations, the show comes to an end, leaving us with memories of the trio that won our hearts.
Fans have felt the warmth given by this special family for the past weeks and with an ending like this, we know that it wasn’t just healing for us but for the cast as well. The actors have all left us smiling and crying with their performances while the plot left us happy for every character on this show.
